2015 - Birdhouses

500 birdhouses, hundreds of narratives about what "home" means, and a year-long collaboration with Habitat for Humanity.

Build-A-Home

In collaboration with Habitat for Humanity, we invited folks throughout the North End and East End of Lexington to write about what "home" means to them, using discarded typewriters. Together with our students, we designed and built hundreds of birdhouses. Together with hundreds of people from the larger Lexington community, including kids at 4 local elementary and high schools, we decorated all the birdhouses. Each decorative design also included a portion of a "home" narrative. In the end, we created a scavenger hunt to give the birdhouses permanent homes.
